In 1974, I went to Paris. I was in the Army at the time and went to Paris on a military discount. $29.00 bus trip to Paris and return bus trip back to Nurnberg, Germany. We spent 5 days in Paris. When I saw the Eiffel Tower, I was in total awe of its majestic beauty. I didn’t think about the Eiffel Tower being haunted. Not until later, I started wondering if the Eiffel Tower is haunted. Many of the places in Paris that I visited were haunted, like Notre Dame, the Paris Catacombs, Palace of Versailles, Arc de Triomphe, Napolean Bonaparte’s tomb at Hotel Les Invalides.
I learned later in life that the Eiffel Tower is very haunted. There have been 6 deaths at the Eiffel Tower. According to the official records the six deaths was a worker who was struck by a truck, the second death was of a man that fell down an elevator shaft, a third death was a man hit by a hoist, a fourth death was in a blast area and a fifth death was a man who fell off a scaffold. The sixth death was a man that thought he could fly. His name was Franz Reichelt. He died on February 4, 1912. Franz had this great idea, that he could build a parachute suit and jump off the Eiffel Tower and survive. When he wore the suit, he acquired the nickname of the Flying Tailor. On the day that he fell to his death, he told the authorities he was going to do dummy drops. At the last-minute Franz changed his mind, put on the suit and said he was going to jump from the Eiffel Tower. He got to the jumping point, hesitated for 40 seconds and jumped. The parachute suit opened half- way and wrapped around him. He hit the ground with a resounding THUMP. His right leg and arm were crushed. His skull and spine were shattered. Blood came pouring out of his mouth, ears and nose. Franz was dead. At times tourists claim that they see the Flying Tailor jumping off the Eiffel Tower and will vanish before hitting the ground. The negative energy is so strong, it causes an “incident loop” that replays itself over and over again.
Tourists and Parisians make claim that they see ghostly figures at night walking around the Eiffel Tower. These ghost figures could be coming from the nearby Pere Lachaise Cemetery or the Paris Catacombs that may actually be under the Eiffel Tower. Many people have seen a ghost of a woman walking in the upper areas of the Eiffel Tower and then vanishes. Many people believe that this woman was murdered by her fiance in the 1920s. The story goes that a couple walked up the Eiffel Tower, the boyfriend proposed. The woman refused the proposal, and the man went into a fit of rage and pushed his girlfriend into the safety railing. He pushed her so hard she went over the railing and fell to her death. The other side of this story is that the woman after receiving the proposal was shocked, stepped back, lost her balance and fell to her death. There is no official record of this woman’s death in the 1920s, but people insist that the story is true, and a woman ghost is seen at the higher end of the Eiffel Tower.
